BATTERIES There are many kinds of batteries which consist of different materials in order to produce an electric charge. Here are some of the most common batteries, what they consist of and how they work. Bichromate Cell (see picture # 1) A battery is a device which converts chemical energy into electrical energy. A battery usually consists of two or more cells connected in series or parallel, you can also have a single cell battery. All cells consist of a positive electrode, and a negative electrode. An electrolyte is a liquid substance capable of conducting electricity. In this substance one of the electrodes will react producing electrons, while the other will except electrons. When the electrodes are connected to a device to be powered, called a load, an electrical current flows. Batteries where the chemicals cannot be returned to their original form once the energy has been converted (that is, batteries that have been discharged) are called primary cells or voltaic cells. Batteries in which the chemicals can be returned to its original form by passing an electric current through them in the direction opposite that of normal cell operation are called secondary cells, rechargeable cells, storage cells, or accumulators. Dry Cell Battery(see picture # 2) This is the most common battery that people use today like Energizer or Duracle batteries. The most common form of a primary cell is the Leclanche cell, invented by a French chemist Georges Leclanche in the 1860s. The electrolyte for this battery consisted of a mixture of ammonium chloride and zinc chloride made into a paste. The negative electrode is zinc, and is the outside shell of the cell, and the positive electrode is a carbon rod that runs through the center of the cell. This rod is surrounded by a mixture of carbon and manganese dioxide. This battery produces about 1.5 volts. Another widely used primary cell is the zinc-mercuric-oxide cell, more commonly called a mercury battery. It can be made in the shape of a small flat disk and is used in this form in hearing aids, and electric wristwatches. The negative electrode consists of zinc, the positive electrode is of mercuric oxide, and the electrolyte is a solution of potassium hydroxide. The mercury battery produces about 1.34 volts. The fuel cell is another type of primary cell. It is unique in that the chemicals aren't contained within the cell but are supplied from outside of the cell.

Antigone  Ã‚     In the story of Antigone, two very headstrong people's beliefs are matched up against each other. Creon, the king, made it law that no traitor to the Kingdom shall have a proper burial, instead they will be left laying on the ground to rot and to be eaten by the animals. This was the case of Antigone's brother, Polyneices. Antigone's love for her brother was so great that she went against the law, even though she knew Creon's punishment for breaking the law was public stoning, which ultimately resulted in death. Creon, who had an equal amount of determination, refused to back down from his law for his own reasons even after Antigone ignored it. He could not submit himself to the will of a woman. At that time, women were looked at as being in the same class as slaves. If he did, it would have showed weakness in him and the people would have overthrown him for letting a woman have that effect on him. So instead of the public stoning, Creon sentenced Antigone to die in a cave where she could starve to death. Instead of dying a slow miserable death, she committed suicide by hanging herself. As it turns out, this set off a string of events for the king that he could have never saw coming. The first of the tragic events that would unfold was the death of h is son. Haemon was Creon and Eurydice's son and was next in line to the throne with Antigone as his wife. Creon's son was set to be married to Antigone, but after Creon sentenced her to death, Haemon turned on his father. He was outraged that Creon had taken away his future wife, in which he was very much in love with. He was so outraged, that he would even break the unique and special bond between father and son. Haemon felt incomplete without Antigone and could not stand being apart from her. He found away to solve his problem and get revenge on his father at the same time. He had taken his own life and at the same time killed the future of the family's place in the throne. Creon was crushed at what his son did, especially hearing it from someone else. After hearing of Haemon's death, Eurydice was completely devastated and felt somewhat violated. She felt Creon was responsible for the death of not only Haemon, but for Megareus who was killed some years before.

Nowadays, you can be updated by watching a single program. In Bandila, Boy Abunda can be found sitting side by side, laughing and sharing banters with primetime news reporters Karen Davila, Ces Drilon and Julius Babao. As observed by Jean Encinas-Franco, a political scientist in UP, it just shows how serious news and celebrity gossips managed to intertwine over a few years. Furthermore, it suggests that the former and the latter are now equal in terms of importance. Our interest is diverted. Even if we are presented with political issues that require our attention, we often turn a blind eye and immerse ourselves with trivial matters. Do you think Ping Lacson is gay? Is the president dating again? In the context of the Philippine society today, the subject of politics is enough to make one cringe. The word almost always comes with the word corruption. This phenomenon is intensified by the negative portrayal of our â€Å"authority† on television. A study by psychologist Bruce Levine shows that watching TV, which is a national pastime in the Philippines, pacifies the mind, making it more passive and more susceptible to information-feeding. We are constantly informed of how unprofessional our government is ... ... deem it as pointless to gain unbeneficial knowledge. Catcher in The Rye by J. D. Salinger

In the novel Catcher in The Rye, Salinger has employed a very realistic portrayal of teenagers and how they act. There are plenty of characteristic on how he properly conveyed this to the audience and he also spread these characteristics through-out all of the characters that are used within the novel.Firstly, you have Holden; a teenager who is not always the brightest bulb in the cabinet, but he has a clear understanding on how the world works and yet he ironically does not have the brains to execute this knowledge directly into the world. Secondly, you have Stradlater; a teenager who just spends all his time going out with girls and partying. Some might say he is a ‘party animal’. Lastly, you have Ackley; a mostly grotesque teenager who does not listen to social cues, acts profoundly around people actions and his practically obnoxious about everything (not knowing, that is how he is acting though). So, Salinger’s opinion (when it comes to characteristics of a te enager) is that all teenagers are blatantly ignorant everything, that all teenagers think they can just coast their way through life and do not have any respect for the people around us.Holden does not really think about what he is going to say, he just kind of spits everything out. Maybe he is an intelligent boy and all, but how he speaks and what he says proves otherwise. Holden states â€Å"I practically got T.B†¦ I’m pretty healthy, though.† (J.D Salinger, 5) In this sentence he talks about basically having a life threatening disease and then tries to reassure to the reader that he is ‘pretty healthy’, I personally think that in a logical statement he would have said something on the lines of â€Å"I practically got T.B†¦ [I should get that checked out].† (J.D Salinger, 5)While Holden is having a conversation with Mr. Spencer he even acknowledges his own stupidity to himself/the reader through the idea of immaturity. â€Å"I was sixte en then, and I’m seventeen now, and sometimes I act like I’m about thirteen.† (Salinger, 9) It is kind of ironic if you think about it, he does not want to be known as dumb or stupid or an idiot, yet he has the  occasional time when he acts like a thirteen year old. Holden, he understands where his faults are, but he cannot come to a conclusion on how to actually fix them he just carries on with his day as if it does not matter.Holden’s roommate Stradlater thoroughly enjoys going out on Friday night, Saturday night, well every night. To do so, he has to find ways to be able to still do well in school while 0slacking off and shrugging all his work aside and his solution; anyone he can find. At one point Stradlater and Holden (because they are roommates) meet up in their room and Stradlater asks Holden is he can do a big favour for him and if he was planning on going out. Holden replies asking what the favour is and that he did not have plans of any sorts. Afterwards Stradlater asks ‘the big question’, â€Å"I got about a hundred pages to read for history†¦ How ‘bout writing a composition for me†¦?† (Salinger, 28)In this instance he had just initiated a vital opening for Holden to be a friend or to just blow him off, and Holden accepts the offer and says he will do the paper for him. Stradlater had just avoided doing his work for one reason; he wanted to go out that night with a girl.Stradlater is also a guy who knows how to be flattering enough that he can convince people to do things for him, you could look at it as he has it better than everyone else because he is ‘prettier’ than other people. He compliments Holden’s new hat with the term â€Å"sharp† and then almost instantaneously afterwards asks â€Å"Listen. Are ya gonna write that composition for me? I have to know.† (Salinger, 29) Why did he need to know you might ask? Well, if Holden has explicitly said à ¢â‚¬Å"no.† to him then Stradlater would have stayed in that night to do it, although Holden says â€Å"If I get the time, I will†¦Ã¢â‚¬  (Salinger, 29) Stradlater, using Holden like a boat in the river of life, just expects Holden to float on his way through life, carrying Stradlater along while he is having a party in the boat.Finally, there is Ackley. Now, Ackley has a knack for hanging out in the wrong place for too long. In chapter three, Holden is laying down in his room reading a book and enjoying the feeling of his new hat on the top of his head when, let it be hold that his neighbour Ackley comes strolling over into his room without any true intent on why he is there.Ackley moves  friskily around the room, touching everything he can multiple times while trying to hold a conversation with Holden (who clearly does not want one). â€Å"I’ve read this same sentence about twenty times since you came in.† (Salinger, 20) After stating that Ackley was a disturbance to him, he still did not get the hint and clearly not picking up on the cue to get out of Holden’s room. Later on while Ackley is still occupying the room, Holden says to his self â€Å"I sometimes horse around to keep myself from getting bored.† (Salinger, 21) Once Holden starts to annoy Ackley, trying to make him vacate the room he STILL does not leave. So, clearly Ackley has a problem with following what people are trying to put out to him because he is just plain ignorant about other people and quite frankly himself if you were to take a look at how he manages his outer image.In conclusion, J.D Salinger has made the novel Catcher in The Rye a story that really shows how teenagers act/acted. Salinger also adds his own input on how he thinks teenagers act and/or acted in our time period and the time period at which this novel was written and/or published in through the characters he had created. Three of the main characters; Holden, Stradlater and Ackley are all extremely different which expresses a wide variety of teenager characteristic.Holden symbolizes blatant ignorance for the world around him, Stradlater shows us how un-caring and un-motivated teenagers are when it comes to working on anything and lastly, Ackley describes the lack of respect that we as teenagers have for the people around us. Salinger has made it pretty clear that he believes that teenagers need to change and used this novel to get his point across the world.

Vietnam in the form of stories that change the reader's outlook on a variety of topics. One Of O'Brien chapters, â€Å"How to Tell a True War Story† truly exemplifies his role as a storyteller in the unique way he retells each of his stories. O'Brien alters his style with each recount to emphasize the different ways a story can affect a reader. Through his specific style of storytelling, O'Brien is able to describe his different experiences of Vietnam while explaining his perspective of the human situation.O'Brien alternation between narrating a story and commenting on its exceptive effects explicitly expresses his role as a storyteller in this chapter. In doing this, he is also able to point out the influence it had on his view of human disposition and the true nature of war. He explains the traits of a true war story while giving examples of his own. His strategy of retelling a war story with multiple different approaches emphasizes the power of his storyteller position.He c laims that ‘A true war story is never to depict his recount of the incident in a specific way, thus characterizing one of his many experiences . Just like most soldiers after war find a way to cope with their sufferings, O Brine relays his own experiences by stating that â€Å"In any war story, but especially a true one, it's difficult to separate what happened from what seemed to happen†(63). This chapter is unique in the sense that it takes the minutiae of a certain war memory, twists it to invoke certain emotions, and stimulates a reaction in the reader.Throughout the chapter he illustrates how incredibly the meaning and the effect of a story can change with the smallest adjustment to details . The different ways that O'Brien tells a story help us realize the power of his practice. O'Brien analyses of true war stories, followed by his real life account strike the reader in the heart and change their view of the war as a whole. Brine's storytelling is a powerful mediu m through which he expresses his thoughts on the war.Aside from relaying the incidents during the war, O'Brien also aims to point out his observations Of human nature relating to war. Whether we realize it or not, war has a large influence in all of our lives – O'Brien aims to bring out hose realizations through his storytelling. During this chapter O'Brien repeatedly shares the many characteristics of a true war story. He describes many different traits such as: a true war story â€Å"never seems to or â€Å"a true war story cannot be believed â€Å"(64). Then O'Brien gives an example of how that certain trait rings true in a story of his own.The effect produced is eye opening and causes the reader to adapt the same mindset that O'Brien takes towards his revelations. With his continued explanations of why war stories are so complex, O'Brien moves into the realm of legacies. His vivid description of Curt Lemon's Death is a poignant reminder of the gruesome and tragic, yet sudden end to a great man's life. Even though Lemon perished in the snap of a finger, O'Brien urges us to realize that his creative style of storytelling keeps Curt Lemon alive.Just like Ted Lavender and Kiowa, Curt Lemon left behind a legacy that lived among the memories of the soldiers. This is how O'Brien is able to keep him alive along with all of the others who he does not want to let go of. This novel can be viewed as simply a novel that describes a war experience room the point of a soldier; however, the way it's portrayed makes it much more. Not only does O'Brien express what it was like to be in the Vietnam war, but also he gives us a deep analysis of our race in relation to common struggles among us.Often when a soldier has a hard time coping with their return, it is because he or she does not feel like they belong. It's as if no one believes what they say is true because of how terrible it sounds. O'Brien explains that if â€Å"somebody tells a story, let's say, and afte rward you ask, ‘Is is true? ‘ [then] if the answer matters, you've got your There are any people who are ignorant to the lengths that soldiers go to for protecting this country, and when those people fail to appreciate those actions, it is heartbreaking.When O'Brien says that â€Å"if the answer matters, you've got your answer he is emphasizing the point that all war stories can be true even if they never actually happened. The experience Of war as a whole is so unbelievable that any story is true in some sense if it helps the reader understand what the narrator went through. His depiction of war is gruesome to say the least, but it explains to us how war impacts a man. He also expresses the importance off legacy like those of Curt lemon's, Kiosk's, and Ted Lavender's.O'Brien has the potential to be scarred for life from these death incidents; however, he uses the power of his stories as a coping mechanism, and in turn is able to keep the souls of his comrades alive. He does this with Timmy preserve his innocence, and in the same way, he does this to his friends to aid the hurt the war has caused him. All in all, O'Brien strategy of storytelling achieves the multiple goals intended: to portray his tragic war experiences, to explain the human notation in relation to the war, and to portray the strength of a legacy preserved in a Story.

Dr. Kelly PenzUniversity of Saskatchewan- College of Nursing In the Article Warrior caregivers: Understanding the challenges and healing of First Nations men, Mussell describes the Medicine wheel as a conceptual framework to guide an individual to understand the four significant aspects of self which includes: physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual aspects of self (Mussell, 2005). In this paper I have utilized the four aspects of self as an integrated approach to display who I am. In terms of the physical aspect of myself, the biggest challenge that I have faced was moving out from home. I used to live with my family in Saskatoon and moved to Regina alone a few weeks ago to pursue my education in Nursing. Along with my education, one of the main reasons to move out was so I could gain some independence. Moving to Regina from Saskatoon has been very difficult for me, as I have been facing many challenges. In terms of living alone now and physically away from my family, it has been hard for me to keep up with a healthy nutritional diet because I have to cook on my own now and I am not experienced in cooking. It has also been hard to keep up with daily exercise due to time management because I am either trying to catch up with schoolwork or working a part time job to cover my expenses such as rent, groceries and much more. While living at home I was the complete opposite of what I am now, I used to eat very healthy and exercise regularly because I didn’t have to worry about working a part time job and neither did I have to make any meals since my mom would always cook. Going from a very dependent individual to an independent individual has taught me many responsibilities and priorities in life and accepting this challenge I believe will help me establish my own identity. Emotionally, I have strong relationships with my family, friends and loved ones. The most important relationship I have with is my family, especially my mom who has raised my sister and I as a single mother. My family has taught me most of my values, disciplines and beliefs. My friends I believe are the ones who understand me the most no matter what the situation is. I am able to share absolutely anything with them, especially my best friend, and receive great advice. The most intimate  relationship I share with is my boyfrien d Dhiren who I have been dating for two years now and being with him makes me feel very loved and a sense of belonging. We share a very understanding trusting relationship where we set limits and boundaries to when it comes to being committed to each other. The several different relationships I have with different people shapes the way I interact with people now because I feel the more I am able to let everything out of me and share it with others, I am able to build on myself in terms of becoming less shy and getting out of my comfort zone to talk to others. Intellectually, I am always eager to learn and take upon new challenges. I am a type of person who learns very quickly and have always taken great interest in my education. Most of the knowledge I encompass has been taught to me by experience or directly through schooling. My work experiences has allowed me to teach others about my knowledge, for example I used to work in a Math learning center where I helped and guide children from grade school to high school with any math questions. Currently I work in a cellphone store and my work allows me to provide knowledge on the latest technology within the several different kinds of phones and educate customers. I believe that the more kn owledge I inherit, it shapes my critical thinking abilities and displays my understanding of everything around me. Spiritually, I am a Muslim and I strongly believe in the faiths and beliefs of the Muslim religion. In the article, Mussell describes the spiritual of self from the Medicine wheel as valuing the creation of Great Spirit which I agree to (Mussell,2005). I believe that God is the creation of everything and I value how much we should worship its creation such as respecting the environment because I think God is always watching over our good and bad deeds. I believe that if one has committed a bad deed then they should be punished for it and people who have done good deeds will be rewarded. My spiritual beliefs in my religion come from the teachings from my family and what their past generations had valued which has shaped me in thinking about religion how I do today. In conclusion, the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual aspects of self very much structures how one would represent their self identity, how others perceive them and the ideal self image. From my perspective, all four aspects in the Medicine wheel integrate together to create a framework to reflect on how the person I have become, in terms of how I think, the reasoning behind my logic and  how my past experiences has shaped me to the person I am today.
